About Distant Echos

Hello friends, I'm delighted to meet you.

My name is Brian Edginton. I am a retired software development leader and architect. I live with my wife and our dog in West Jordan, Utah. I enjoy our nearby mountains and deserts and have spent a lot of time researching the rich history of the peopling of the Americas and the legacy they have left etched in stone and stories.

I also have spent many years with genealogy, doing my private research, helping others discover their past, building stories about their ancestors, and exploring the technologies and techniques available to us all. I started when all we had were libraries, archives, and dusty family Bibles with which to discover our ancestors. Now, we have tools and resources that enhance our experience and advance the challenges and joys of turning records into stories.

About writing and AI

I promise that all the writing on this site will be my own. I will use AI tools for research and to generate summaries of my articles, a kind of TL;DR approach. AI is becoming a powerful tool, but it diminishes original thought and can overshadow positive discourse.

About this site

Distant Echos is an independent publication that I launched in November 2024. I have thought about this for a while and finally decided it’s time. It will be a safe, friendly place for all of us to discuss genealogy, share and grow our skills and tricks of the trade, and watch the advancements and discoveries coming at us at the speed of light.

If you subscribe today, you'll get full access to the website and email newsletters about new content when available. Your subscription makes this site possible and allows Distant Echos to continue. Thank you!
